In our daily diet, we consume a lot of sugar and salt directly and indirectly. When we’re working and need energy, we tend to reach for sweets and salty snacks to boost our energy. This leads to consuming processed foods, chocolates, candies, etc., which contain excessive amounts of sugar and salt that are not good for our health. Consuming these during cravings can contribute to weight gain.

According to Utah Health University, “If you eat too much sugar or too many carbohydrates, basically, all this energy has to be stored somehow, and normally that storage is inside the fat cells or fat droplets, and those can also accumulate inside the liver, and cause what we call fatty liver disease.”

So, if you want to say Stop it, Avoid it now! If you want to lose weight.

In your weight loss journey, try this to manage to lose 3–4 kg in a month by simply avoiding excess salt and sugar in your diet. Like many others, we usually crave spicy and sugary foods while working. We often like to eat chocolates, candies, and processed foods like chips and peanuts with a sprinkle of salt. We even used to add salt and chili flakes to our curd and salad to enhance their taste. However, you know that these bad food habits contribute to our weight gain and promote obesity. Therefore, we have to decide to cut off these unhealthy foods to improve our physical and mental well-being.

But here are some questions about how reducing sugar and salt intake can aid in weight loss.

Question no 1: Does eating excess sugar lead to weight gain?

The answer is a big yes! Consuming excessive amounts of sugar leads to the body storing excess calories as fat, even when not burned off. Sugary foods and drinks are rich but low in nutritional value, resulting in an imbalance in our diet. High sugar consumption can lead to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes, which is closely linked to obesity. Excessive sugar intake can also cause poor-quality sleep. Finally, sugary foods contain fructose, which can damage the liver. Ultimately, the negative effects of excessive sugar consumption are directly linked to weight gain.

Question no 2: Does eating excessive salt contribute to weight gain?

When we consume too much salt, our bodies retain water, which causes a bloated feeling and short-term weight gain. Additionally, salty foods are often high in calories and fat, which can lead to overeating and result in weight gain. Increased salt intake also raises the risk of obesity.

Question no 3: How can we maintain a healthy salt and sugar intake in our diet to manage body weight?

Answer is-

1.     Cut back on foods that are high in salt and sugar.

2.     Replace canned food with fresh vegetables and fruits.

3.     Skip the soda, energy drinks, and sweet teas and replace them with smoothies, herbal teas, coffee, unsweetened sparkling water, black and green tea, and sugar-free drinks and beverages.

4.     Load up your diet with whole grains, unprocessed food, dairy products, lean proteins, seafood, and nuts.

5.     Satisfy your sweet tooth with fresh fruits, Greek yogurt with fruit, baked fruit with cream, and dark chocolates.

6.     Make habits for eating more protein.

7.     Go for a walk and get enough sleep; it helps fight many health issues related to body weight.

Always Remember!

“Consuming excessive amounts of food can be detrimental to your health.”
